ECONOMY

The Story:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the National Logistics Policy on Saturday (NLP). The cost of logistics as a percentage of GDP is 11–12% in Europe, 10% in the US and less in China, and 13–14% in India. GoI has started a thorough examination to provide a framework for future repeated measurements. Systematic changes can gradually boost efficiency, lower waste, lower costs, and boost competitiveness.

The Government of India introduced the PM Gati Shakti Scheme (PMGSS) in October 2021 to facilitate integrated planning and implementation of infrastructure. It unites 16 ministries, including those in charge of roads, trains, and waterways. It includes several ongoing development programs, including the Bharatmala Pariyojana for roads, motorways, and expressways, the SagarMala program for port-led development, and the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) program for improved air connectivity.

The new NLP has been designed to ensure total enhancement. Initiatives for digital acceleration include the Integration of Digital Systems (IDS) to combine data from the road, rail, customs, aviation, foreign trade, and commercial sectors; the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) to coordinate efficient cargo movement; the Ease of Logistics (ELOG) to streamline regulations; and a System Improvement Group (SIG) to track developments and remove system-related obstacles.

The goal of NLP is correct. As always, execution will be the key to success.

Key facts:

  • Only objects in the universe that can even stop light from escaping, just by sheer gravitational force

  • Being extremely dense gives them the power to warp the fabric of space and time

  • They are the ultimate energy factories and have the power to spawn new universes

  • Black holes do not just devour everything, on the flip side they explode in several interesting ways

Do black holes explode?

Black holes have quite interesting ways of exploding, either by self-detonation or by effecting their nearby environments.

Hawking Radiation: Sometimes, the black holes do not devour any new material, but they still emit energy slowly thereby loosing mass and ultimately evaporating over time. This phenomenon was discovered by the famed astrophysicist Stephen Hawking.

Super radiance: Rotating black holes or “kerr” black holes create an elongated region of space where nothing can stay still which is called “ergosphere”. They also pull photons in the process. The photons bounce in & out of the ergosphere and may gain energy during repeated processes. This is called super radiance. At one point of time, significant number of photons gain so much energy that they collectively become a “black hole bomb”. This shows how black holes can affect their surroundings.
